Default "The Last Day Dawns" with heroes?

Hi fellow GWers,

I'm trying to complete the Titan Quest "The Last Day Dawns" with heroes but have been unsuccessful so far. I've got an E/R based on water (ciy spear, maelstrom, deep freeze, icy spike) and with winter.

I've tried quite a lot of things, taking 2 henchmen from Yak's Bend and even 4 from ToA as suggested in gwwiki, tried to change my heroes from Koss+Dunkoro+Gwen/Olias to Koss+Tahlkora+Sousuke (I must admit that I haven't yet optimised the builds of my heroes, but I've tried to think about them a minimum) but it only made things easier until I met the first enemy group (where I tried as much as possible to target enemies according to their threat as indicated in gwwiki).

Anyone got clues, ideas on how to perform this quest?
Thanks for your help!

I usually do it with people from Frontier Gate. I've never tried it from ToA, but I've done it from Yak's, once only.

Kill Sparks first
Kill Burning Titan Next
Kill Ashen Hulk after
Kill hand then fist

Always kill One titan at a time.

Char that are 8th lvl, leave them, kill the 24th lvl Char first.

If you are taking water elementalist spells, don't bother with winter.

I would suggest:

E/R - you - Fire Nuker with Winter
R/Mo - Jin or Magrid - Broad Head Arrow interupter with poison
Mo/E - Talkora - Protector
D/Mo - Melonni - Melandru Avatar
Mo - Alesia - healing henchie

Make sure that all healing goes to Melonni, because she'll tank. You nuke, Magrid/Jin interupts all spells.

Should make things much easier for you.

If you want help, let me know (add me to friends: Dargoth Alfazul)

That requires you to start from Yak's Bend, as that's 5 people there.

Oh yea, he did. I thought the guy suggesting it was saying that's what he did, but he said he started from Frontier. You might as well bring Claude too for a battery.

Done it before with:

Me: R/E, Barrage, a few interrupts, Conjure Frost, Winter, and some of the usual Ranger defensive skills
Margrid the Sly: R/E, same build as mine except for FW in place of Winter
Acolyte Sousuke: E/Mo, Fire nuker.
Dunkoro: Mo/E, WoH monk

You could probably replace the second Ranger with another nuker, or a melee fighter, but with Winter on the field it doesn't really matter as long as he/she does plenty of elemental damage.

Try to micromanage the monk with flags to keep him/her out of harm's way, then just keep calling targets to coordinate your team's fire effectively, and kill the sparks first. Try to make sure the Rangers are the first to aggro the enemy; with their 100 elemental armor the eles don't hurt that much.

You will want a Healing Prayers Monk, as you get a Prot Monk as an ally. With Mend Condition, Protective Spirit and Reversal of Fortune, he is a strong prot monk due to a decent skill set and AI reflexes.

Winter is useless, as it no longer converts before damage is dealt. If you're using a water Elementalist, you don't even need Winter in the first place. Fire is poor, as the clumps of enemies aren't as big, and all titans you'll be facing have large resistance to it (though Charr don't seem to be resistant to it). Maelstrom and Blurred Vision are good skills to bring, as you'll be facing mainly Warriors and casters.

Take it slow, and take down the titans in this order:
Sparks of the Titan
Armageddon Lord
Burning Titan
Hand/Fist of the Titan
Risen Ashen Hulk

If you can maintain physical-hate, take down the Charr casters before all other physicals (Warriors/Rangers).

Ensure that you're ready before taking down the last Titan in a group. Even if it would spawn creatures, the game doesn't wait for you to kill it off before sending another wave. Deep Freeze is useful for this purpose, as it is a long lasting snare that can be used against that Titan, giving you more time to recuperate, or against the next wave (also giving you more time to recuperate).

Try to keep the NPCs alive, as although King Adelbern and the two other Warriors are fodder, it's extra bodies for the Charr and Titans to hit, and the three of them together deal respectable damage. Ensure you keep Adelbern alive, since that's part of the objective anyway.

Good Luck!

Thanks to all for your advices (and Dargoth Alfazul for offering to help ingame!). It seems I'm missing a ranger hero for this mission, so I'll have to go back to NF to unlock them. Or else I'll be lucky to PUG in Frontier Gate.

Despite this, I feel that it is a very tough quest, in particular regarding timing (I died many times unable to sustain the rythm of groups coming).

Again, thank you for helping. If others want to contribute with how they succeeded with this quest, please do so!

Cheers.

Make sure you protect the King and the healer. Since you have no control over the healer NPC or the King, you may have to force your hero(s) to heal them.

If you find me on-line, don't hesitate to pm me in game. Also let me know what profession you want me to bring:

W/R, A/W (or/Mo), Me/Mo, Mo/E, N/Me, R/Mo.

I don't think my Rit/N has made it to Frontier Gate (I think my A/W has though). My Rit easily beat Defend Droknars so far.

My P/Me and D/Mo have not even come close to getting to old Ascolon, so I can't bring them yet.

Just about all of my heros are lvl 20 and have all skills from Prophecies and Factions. I'm slowly getting all skills from Nightfall.

I suppose you can bring Norgu instead of Jin/Magrid. Just make sure you have plenty of interupts.

For anyone reading this who is thinking about trying the quest from Yak's Bend or Temple of Ages - your only way into Eastern Frontier is from the southern portal, entering from Pockmark Flats. The whole area is overrun with high level Charr Lords and you have to fight your through a crapload of them just to get to the area where the King is hanging out. It is not easy!

I am having a really tough time (playing a ranger) with this quest also.

I have tried all sorts of Hero/Hero skill combinations. The biggest problem is that whatever Hero monk I bring does little to nothing to heal Adelbern and his team. It's very aggravating.

I'm thinking of trying one last time and making monk my secondary and trying to keep the NPC team alive myself.

It would help a lot if Adelbern and his crew would follow you around like normal Allies. Then I could do some pulling and running, etc.

Holy Thread resurrection, Batman! Hey Fril, did you ever finish it?

I completed this quest about a year ago. I don't remember the specific builds I used, but I was playing a Triple Chop Warrior and I brought 3 heroes with me out of Frontier Gate. I know I didnt' run from Yaks or anyplace else or I'd remember that.

I probably brought a Searing Flames Ele, a monk and one other hero (MM possibly) as that would have been my typical setup back then. I didn't have much trouble with the quest. I only attempted it once and beat it the first time.

I figured these endgame Prophecies quests (which I never bothered trying before) would be a cinch with Heroes, but it's not happening.

Yep, with Sabway/Triple Necro it was easy and surprising because King's soldiers and priest all died but he didn't. It was quite easy, but most of PvE is with Sabway

Hmmm.... I tried Sabway once and got totally owned. Maybe I'll try it again, though. Thanks for the suggestion. I wonder if I flagged Livia (the healer necro) farther back she might stay alive longer.

My bad, I should have said that I was an E/R, so I was nuking hard on the titans. And always remember to put down the Sparks first. As I said before, I didn't focus on keeping the soldiers and the priest alive and realised that they died, but this didn't change anything.

Good luck with this quest!

Well, Sabway just didn't work for me, but when I replaced the curses necro with a warding elementalist (but retaining the Necro/Rit healer and the MM), the quest was substantially easier.

Also, my ranger used [skill]Winter[/skill] to good effect, as well as the Ebon Vanguard skills Ebon Battle Standard of Courage and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support. Very helpful!

It was still a challenging fight, but it went much more smoothly. Thanks for all the suggestions posted here, though. This quest was definitely one of the harder ones I've encountered. I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to be able to complete it.

GJ trm819!

I was actually told (post #7) that winter didn't work, but it may have been fixed. I agree with you that the Titan quests are definitively among the most challenging ones!
